and if i've forgotten to take it the previous day, and i have sex today, would it make any difference?
I also started having my period (which was supposed to be a lot later) after having sex . is this normal? My hormones are totally screwed up! and maybe it has something to do with the fact that i skipped the sugar pills, and went on straight to the others, because i really didn't want to have a period the previous time..
didn't work completely though. Please Help!!

If you've missed a pill (more than 12 hours late), then you should wait until you have taken another seven active pills in a row before having unprotected sex, otherwise you could become pregnant. Missing a pill can bring on breakthrough bleeding mid-cycle.
Some contraceptive pills are very sensitive as to what time you take them, some of them to within just two hours. Mine has a 12 hour window, but if I'm more then 4 hours late taking it I'll usually get breakthrough bleeding.
Check the information leaflet that comes with your pills, it will tell you how many hours late will count as a missed pill and whether tuo have to take it at the exact same time everyday - I have a reminder on my cellphone and on my work computer and keep my pills in my purse so I always have them with me.

If you want it to work you must take it everyday around the same time. In the am or in the evening after dinner or something. You cant expect it to keep you regulated if you cant take it yourself on a normal schedule. I never skip any pills not even the sugar ones. I paid for each and every one and Im going to take each and every one.
Just cause you skip the sugar pills it does not mean you will "skip" your period. You need to read the phamlet that comes in your prescription.

Ok..you have to follow the directions on the label or insert that came with the pills. You can't take them according to convenience. It matters what time you take them in the sense that if you take one at 9am and the next day take it at 9 pm, you have gone 36 hours without taking a pill. That opens up a window of opportunity to get pregnant. Also if you are taking them helterskelter with no set rhythm, you are much more likely to forget them. I have been on the pill before and as long as I took mine every night at bedtime, no matter what, I was safe. There was one week, when my oldest child was in the hospital for 3 days and I forgot to pack my pills when I stayed with him at thehospital. As a result, I had my second child. So stick with a routine and you will do ok. Forget and it's potluck.

you have to take it the same time everyday or about the same time.if you miss a pill you will have breakthrough bleeding probably for a couple days. continue to take your pill also. If you miss a pill double up the next day., if you miss one pill you dont need to use a back up method. read the packet
