Religion is a way of control. An argument between 2 men and the world is at war!! Stop the fighting and bring our troops home. There is enough oil for everyone!! (why we can't use cooking oil in our cars is beyond me)
People who follow anyone who claims they have connections to god, needs to step out of the box and see the bigger picture.
In my opinion, polotics and religion go hand in hand and I think that a worldwide ban on religion is an excellent idea, but would only work if the Vatican / government released the true account of our history.

Not that simple, I'm afraid.
Firstly, religion doesn't cause as many wars as people sometimes think - although it causes some, that's true. But most of the ugliest conflicts of modern times - WWI, WWII, Vietnam, Korea, the Falklands, the numerous civil wars - were not directly caused by religion.
Secondly, to forbid religion would in itself be a direct assault on freedom of belief and speech, which would be a bit hypocritical, given the general idea that religion hinders independent thinking.
Just for the record, you know what I think would stop wars? Tell our great leaders that the next time they start one, they're going to be given a rifle and sent over there to do their share of the fighting.

Many people died for the freedoms we take for granted. Freedom of worship is not granted in all socities. I agree with your thought expressed. It is a shame that "religion" has come to so much "hate". We must keep the focus that not all that come in the name of love & worship really have spiritual & loving souls. The actions speak so much louder than words. However, there are many very loving, peaceful, religous people too. I think there are some people who use religion but really have none. It is kind of like other examples in life. There are child molesters who get in positions of authority over children just to take sick advantage of them. Or the prison guards who get the positions just to abuse the prisoners. Or the politicians who get the position for money & power and do not care about the issues. And so on and so forth. There is corruption in all walks of life. There are many hate crimes in the world. However, we would not want to loose our freedoms either. I agree with your peacemaking efforts and intentions but I do not agree with the solution of banning religion. I believe there is a huge difference between religion and spiritualism. I am not religious at all but I am very spiritual. I love God and people. I try to live my life with love and integrity. I have been turned off from organized religion because it seems to be corrupt. We can still love the sinnners but hate the sin. I think it is up to the individual to walk in love and truth and I am not sure there is anyway to come to that solution. We can just all do our part by spreading more love and goodness one person at a time. We can also not tolerate hate & violence by getting involved in constructive change. Great thought provoking topic!

If only it were that simple.
I'd rather have people reach the conclusion on their own that traditional dogmatic religion is destructive and false.
Everybody can see it in the religions of others, but nobody turns the same scepticism on their own religion. Why? Basically - and I know "religious" people don't want to hear this, but it's true - because of brainwashing.
Religion is the sleaziest form of bigotry, because the same sense of certainty that convinces you that your particular cult is the "right" one also implies that everybody else is going to hell or the equivalent. This psychology, carried far enough, is what leads people to (e.g.) fly planes into buildings.

what and lose control of the masses! it would be a good idea in some ways but not in others. beneficial to most though. some people hold onto their faith religiously, pardon the pun. religion is all some people have. on the other hand, it would stop all this nonsense between protestants-catholics etc. i think the world would unite if religion was abolished. pity america though. they practically thrive on cults and religious groups nobody else has ever heard of. get rid i say!

that is just a new flying religion called a religion that bans all religions
negative chief! it ain't gonna work! there will be a whole set of rules and beliefs that surround what it means to ban a religion and then people will follow that path or code and begin tearing each other's eyes out over that!

What!!!!!!! Religion is very important. I'm a Catholic and part of a local Youth Mass Group.
I find religion is one of the most important things in life, without God creating Jesus and then without Jesus coming down and dying for us we wouldn't be here now.
I respect all religions and feel everyone is intitled to their views on religion.
Banning religion would be a bit like telling many people I know we live in a country of free thinking and choice as long as not illegal so we have taken away your right of relgion ie.free thinking stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Next you could say oh why don't we ban television because many people watch violent stuff on it and then beat and even kill people because of what they see on it get a grip.

Not to ban religion but to ban people from pushing their religion on others when its unwanted. If people want to worship their god or who ever it is they worship that's fine as long as they keep it among their self's. ( Meaning among them and others who share the same views as them) Keep it out of schools, stop trying to convert people when they don't wish to be converted, to have people stop sticking their nose in the "non-believers" life's. If we don't believe that is our right we don't need to hear their BS about it and that we are lost so they are going to pray for us. Its rude and childish of them to behave like that. A church or a temple and such are places for them to do their worshiping and in their own homes. They can pray at schools but keep it to their self and don't make a big deal out of it. Don't make it a public thing in public places where people don't share those beliefs.

religion is the act of practicing one's beliefs. wars are not cause over religion, they are caused over beliefs. it is impossible to ban beliefs from ones conscience so you're question has an incorrect premise. banning religion would not end all wars. it would only cause more uprising if you disallowed people to practice what they believed.
i'm sorry, but you're gloriously thought out world of no religion would be utter terror and choas.

Not me.Banning religion would lead to mass oppression of the religious. They couldn't stop believing just because it was illegal. They would have to go underground & live in fear of arrest.I think everyone is entitled to believe what they want,so long as they don't try to force their beliefs on anyone else.Btw.I'm Atheist.
