There is no particular problem. You will lose all the mail stored in it, of course, and, since you will be deleting your entire Yahoo account by that ID, you will also lose everything associated with that account.

How do I close my account?
Yahoo! members now have the ability to remove their own account(s) and account information from Yahoo!. Please follow the instructions included below to initiate the deletion of your account.

By deleting your account, you will lose access to all personalized areas of Yahoo!. This includes your GeoCities webpage, Mail account, eGroups and Clubs, Auctions, Fantasy Sports, Games, Profiles, Address Book, Briefcase, Portfolio, and any other areas of Yahoo! that can only be accessed with your Yahoo! ID and password.

Please be sure you want to delete your entire account as you will not be able to reactivate it once the account has been deleted. You are always welcome to sign up again, for a new account.

To get started, sign in to the account you wish to remove. If you're having trouble signing in, you can get password help at http://edit.yahoo.com/config/eval_forgot_pw.

Next, follow the steps to remove your account. Please be sure to read each page carefully, as important information about your account and account information is included.

Please complete this process only if you are certain you would like to remove your entire Yahoo! account and any features you have personalized within the account. Once the deletion process is initiated, your Yahoo! account may never be recovered.

I don't think there's any problem with it. I deleted an account not long ago and I've never heard from it. There's usually a time frame when the Yahoo! would confirm that the account has already been terminated. But, hey, if you're not gonna use that account anymore, then what could harm could it possibly do to you? Right?

★★ DELETE YOUR YAHOO! ACCOUNT ★★

◙ THERE IS NO WAY TO GET YOUR ACCOUNT BACK AFTER YOU HAVE DELETED IT. DON'T BOTHER CONTACTING YAHOO IT WON'T HELP.

◙ DELETE YOUR ENTIRE YAHOO & GEOCITIES ACCOUNT! This means your homepage, email account and all services you signed up for under your current Yahoo-id.

◙ TIP: By deleting this account you are only making it impossible to login to by you and other people. But it will still exist on their server until sometime in the future when they get around to deleting it. This has been known to take many years. Search Engines will still be able to find your homepage and images. All you can do is go to each search engine and have your link removed if they will let you. But there is no way to stop the search bots like Google and Altavista.

◙ WARNING!: Don't waste your time asking Yahoo to speed up the process of finally deleting your account off of their server. I deleted several accounts 6 years ago and I can still go to the homepages but I can't login. If you have something you want removed off of your homepages or in your email account you had better do it before you delete your account. there is no way to do this afterwards. Smart people delete all files in their homepage account and all emails from their email account before delting their account.

◙ See for yourself.

◙ Also anything you put on the web for more than 48 hours will also be archived by the WebArchive's WayBack Machine. This tool archives the first few pages and some of the images of EVERY web site. They have taken this so far as to archive their own web site. I checked it out one day. :)
