I have an epson Stylus C86

I just bought a new black ink cartridge for it. When I print a document, the color cartridges print, but the black does not. I'm not sure why. I've changed ink cartridges a hundred times in this.

The paper acts like it's printing, but then comes out blank. No error message or anything like that, and the black ink cartridge is recognized by the computer as full.

It's possible that my wife changed the settings, but she's not sure. I'm not sure what setting or where I would look if that's the issue.

I am needing to leave in about an hour for an interview and am hoping to print out a few resumes. Your help, is obviously, very needed!

Thanks in advance

Hi. Try a reset. The manual will tell you how, but usually you hold down a button during power-up.

Found this on the web : To reset the protection counter using the control panel (front panel)

Step 1.Turn the power on while holdint the following buttons doen. Paper feed, cleaning button. (thr paper out light will flash for 3 seconds)
Step 2.While the paper out light is still flashing press the cleaning button for 10 seconds. The following leds will flash in sequence Ink out lights black and color, Paper out light. Once the printer starts to initilize the counter should be reset.

This will reset the protection counter. Again timing is the key to get the the above sequence to work. Also it is a good idea to replace or clean the absorber pads For info on the basic process try this link http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/wip.html

I hope this helps.

Try going into your properties and turning off the color cartridge, do a test page and see if it makes a difference. If that doesnt work, switch out where you have the cartridges, they should be the same size, so it should fit.

Do you have the Epson print tools installed? Best to go to printer properties and initiate a clean of the printer head.

To prevent you printing color make sure you have the right settings i the print properties.

Sorry I can't be more help, its hard to troubleshoot without be able to touch see it first hand.

1: the cartridge is not seated correctly. For your urgent work go to Print, Properties and print it in colour. The colours will mix to give you a 'close to black'.

Make sure that the tape protecting the cartridge nozzels has been removed. Make sure the printer is set to be the default printer in control panel, printers and faxes.
