I've never had kidney stones, but my dad has had them three times. His doctor told him he needs to drink more water and less pop. I love gatoraid and I drink that because it rehydrates better than water. Is it still important to drink water just as much as the gatoraid?

This is a classic case of how the advertisement rules.

Gatorade (Watch spelling) is nothing but sugar water with dissolved minerals. It has a variety of salts which you really do not need that much unless you profusely sweat like an athlete does during a vigorous game. Heavy salt consumption leads to kidney disease and heart trouble.(hypertension)

Other than that, plain old cold, refreshing, clean, sparkling water from your kitchen faucet will be just plenty.

Don't fall for the bottled water either. Once again it is all ads. They push it and people buy it and drink 'em blindly. Municipal water is just fine.

Coke, sprite or whatever.........stay the heck away from them. They are sugar water, with phosphoric acid to create more thirst and have you addicted to their colored, caremalized sugared water. It does not do anything more special than a good ol' glass of water.

Word to the wise..........stay with Water for your health's sake.

Kidney stones are very painful!

Chronic low level dehydration from not drinking enough water is blamed for stones in young people who have no other kidney related problems. When water is insufficient to clear the kidneys of waste, crystals build up in the kidneys and stones are formed. Passing the stones out of the kidneys is better than them staying there to eventually "kill" the kidney. Neither a wonderful thought.

Gatorade has a lot of electrolytes and sodium and will add to the build up of kidney stones. Nothing can substitiute fresh clear natural water. Drink at least 64ozs of water daily to keep your body clean and stay healty. Its okay to drink gatorade too, but dont consume too much. Too much of anything good is bad.

Gatorade still has salts (lots of it) and minerals that can probably lead to kidney stones. You should try to incorporate water as often as you can, even if you don't like it. Try to equal it out as 2:1 or 1:1 drinks you like versus water.

Even if you do drink water it is possible for kidney stones. It wouldn't matter if you drank coke everyday, you still have a chance of getting a stone.

kidney stones form for various reasons, being chronically dehydrated (which can be caused by soda pop) is only one.
Gatorade has a great deal of sugar in it, would suggest Propel if you object to drinking water.

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.

They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!

This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.

It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.
