All the answers above are correct. You may have to log into your rounter and choose dhcp to automatically assign ip's to your terminals.

Depending on the type of modem you have, some companies require you to register your modem for home networks also. You can run that one by your ISP to see if this is the case. If not, just eliminate that theory and focus on configuring your router for dhcp and set your pc's tcp/ip setting to automatically obtain IP's and DNS. Reboot everything then try to get on the internet.

Your router should already allow your two computers access to the internet by default, unless you have manual incorrect entries in your network setup. All that should be in there is DHCP, remove all else. If you are trying to access your home computers remotely, and are asking how to open the router to allow in-bound connections, then you just need access to the router console. Usually on 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. Opening ports can be dangerous, so be sure you know what you are doing. I opened a port for remote desktop to my computers which is great.

well.. if the router is connected to the modem.. that shouldnt be a problem.. 2 comp will be connected to the computer automatically .. on your lan setting.. click on automatically detect setting. This should work.
