there are 2 possible reasons that i know of for salt to make it harder to loose weight. Salt will make you retain water, in this case the weight you don't loose from salt would be just water weight.
I do know a friend however, that had a very difficult time losing weight ( even though she was doing aerobics 45 min. every day), until she was advised by weight watchers to start drinking water. The pounds just fell off her after she started drinking the water.
If water is needed to flush the stuff ( excess weight ) out of her, it is possible that salt may interfere with that process.

To lose weight, you'd want to cut down on your salt intake. Most people eat too much salt, anyway, and that's unhealthy period. So yes, salty foods are good to avoid when losing weight.

Salt will cause you to retain water. If you are retaining water the solution is to drink a lot of water which may sound strange. But if you do that your body will let go of the excess that it's been holding on to. Retained water looks like fat but it goes away quickly and easily.

It really depends. You see I am of the firm belief that it probably is most contributed by the mass quantities of food you are wolfing down. Examples would be a side of beef at one sitting and the five sides of french fries accompanying it. Nope, at this point I wouldn't sweat the salt.
