Depends on what CAD Program(s) you know. AutoCAD is still pretty popular, but to make the bigger bucks, 3D modeling Programs like ProE and SolidWorks are where it's at. Also, is this your first job? If so, expect around $15 an hour. Depending on where you live and where you apply can make a difference.

My husband is CAD engineer here in U.S. He works on contract and makes about 50 dollars American an hour. His degree is in industrial technology, so is not MIT engineer, but has worked the field long enough to be hired as regular engineer. Has 4 yr degree, though. My second hand advice would be get on as direct employee, work a few years, then go shopping, as they call it, which is contract work. Few benefit, but pay is great. My hubby does aircraft work, so have no idea about other areas.

It's not that lucrative anymore. You can plan on making about $35K entry level. In today's economy, that's not a lot of money. You have degreed architects doing CAD work because the new construction/design industry is near bust. Think about it seriously and be flexible with career choices.
