Sometimes (more than not) Window's drivers screw up and you have to do things to fix them...Who knows why this happens but it does...
Here's something to try that has worked for me in the past...
1.Unplug the CDROM from the systems board (mobo) then reboot.
2. Now, plug it back in and reboot again...Windows should see that there's a new drive that's been added and it will then work...

What type of computer is this? Remove the component and reinstall, reboot comp, it should recognize it, if it does not, you can go to the website for your computer, and check for update on drivers. You can also check on www.pcdrivers.com or www.driverguide.com if you cant find them on the site for your computer. Good Luck
