Depends on what format the music is in. If they are MP3s it depends on the sample rate. There isn't a clear cut answer to that.

If you are asking how much they hold, it all depends, but just do the math.

One song is usually between 3.5 mb and 7mb, depending on the length of the song and the quality of the MP3.

250GB = 256,000 mb roughly.

Divide that by the higher size of MP3 and you get 36,571 x 7 mb.

Divide that again by the avg number of songs on a cd, or 12, and you get 3047 cd's fitting on a 250gb hard drive.

**EDIT**
Where are you guys getting this 600mb and 700mb crap?

CD's you BUY have this much data on them only because they are in WAV format, which is giant and un-needed. Companies could sell them as .mp3 format and fit hundreds of songs on a cd with no problem.

If you are filling a hard drive with cd's, you more than likely will be using .mp3 formats and NOT wav formats, again, because there is no reason to use .wav.

I stand by my answer :)

if your asking "how many does it hold?"

A Factory stamped Music/audio CD can these days hold a maximum of 763mb

But... the answer is the sum of the data on all the cd's untill the HDD is full.

By this I mean, Alot of Music cd's only are 60-90% filled so you might have 480mb on one and 720 on another.

Generally As a rule of thumb average, full albums on a standard CD's will be an average of 650-700mb

SO... 250GB(250,000MB) divided by (lets say) 700MB = (A Bare Minimum Of 357)

KNOW THIS HELPED.

Uncompressed music CDs (assuming they are almost 70 minutes long) - 400
MP3 compressed at about 80MB per album - 3200

I came up with 403, based on cd's loaded with 620 mb.
