my friend wanted me to check out her webcam, thru yahoo messenger. It said cannot view i had a firewall in place. I followed the instructions to allow it and it still said firewall blocking. I have windows xp.

Yes. The second part of your question is a little more complicated, but you can try to turn off your firewall temporarily, to see if that's what the problem is. If you are using windows firewall go to Start / control panel / windows firewall / general tab
and click 'Off' (Note: it is not wise to leave your firewall off, you may be exposed to attacks). This can help diagnose if it is your firewall blocking the webcam. If it works with the firewall off, turn it back on by clicking 'On' in the general tab. Next you can add port 5100 TCP on the exceptions tab, Click Exceptions Tab, click add port, click TCP radio button, enter name yahoo webcam, enter port number 5100, click OK

Yes you can. You missed something in the firewall.

Remember that you not only could have software firewalls on your computer, but there could be one in your router too.

Apparently you have more than one program from the internet that has a firewall for your internets services if you have macafee check that out check out the internet you use and norton sercurity if you have that too

That's strange; my friend did the same last week and i didn't have a problem, i just clicked on accept and it worked. Check out the options in Y messenger. it does work!
