Choose something you are familiar with. I know once I spoke about how to trap lobsters. For a prop, I brought in a lobster trap and spoke about how the trap works to catch the lobster. It was a big hit with the audience and teacher.

The best "How To" speech I ever saw in person was about how to make the speakers favorite football party food. She gave a demonstration as part of her speech and shared the results with the whole class. Not only was it a good speech, but she held our attention, used handouts (gave us a copy of the recipe), and to this day I still use the recipe she taught us.

Oh, just got a mildly amusing idea. This might or might not work depending on the audience, but there is a book out there on how to survive a zombie attack called The Zombie Survival Guide. I haven't read it myself, but I've heard it's pretty funny. Maybe if your speech is around Halloween, you could use the book as a reference and teach the audience how to survive zombies!

A "how to" speech is usually the most fun speech! Not to mention the easiest. I would do something easy, like explaining how to do something you love to do. Some examples from my classes have been how to bake cookies, how to hunt bear, how to build a birdhouse, and other similar ideas. It always helps to bring in an example with you to the class!!

"how to speaches" are very fun and easy, as i am a public speaker i am aware, what will catch the "audiences" attention, you should speak about something that you are passionate about, and something out of the ordinary, if my teacher gave me this topic i would tell the class "how to" be the best at what you do........this is differant, ab\nd i almost garantee you that no body else in your class will think of this !!!!!!! good luck!!!

Pick something that you know a lot about, but also something that will be interesting to speak about. Your classmates don't want to listen to something boring like "how to tie your shoe" or "how to bake a cake." Do something crazy like, "how to survive jumping out a window" or "how to make it through middle school without doing anything." Do something that will be fun to listen to, and have fun with it.
