your guidance counselor didn't mention anything about cancer--and this is EXACTLY WHY the internet is a dangerous place for information.

Some cancers can CAUSE anemia, but the much more likely situation is that you're just a 16 year old girl, and I'd wager to say that roughly half of all the 16 year old girls out there are anemic to some extent.

Cancer would be a very unusual cause for your anemia—more likely is blood loss from menses and diet. Get a blood test and find out if you are anemic and what kind of anemia you have. The most likely treatment will be change of diet or diet supplements.

No you do not have to have cancer to be anemic! Although it often does occur in cancer patients because of the radiation and blood loss that they go through.

Anemia occurs when the body is unable to produce enough red blood cells, which results in a decrease in the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood. Red blood cells contain hemoglobin, which carries oxygen to all parts of the body. When hemoglobin levels are decreased, less oxygen can be carried throughout the body. The decreased delivery of oxygen causes symptoms like fatigue, tiredness, dizziness, shortness of breath, and may cause the skin to appear pale.

Anemia is low iron count in your blood. I am anemic and when i feel tired and cold I eat something high in iron. there is also an over the counter medication called Slow-fe that can help with anemia.

Anemia has to do with the amount of iron in your blood. If there is not enough iron the hemoglobin cannot bind to the oxygen atoms and carry it to other parts of the body. So you start feeling tired, you bruise very easily, and you may get dark circles around your eyes. It has nothing to do with cancer. Take some vitamins that have iron in them.

No you don't need to have cancer to be anemic. More than likely you just have an iron deficiency. Take some vitamins and eat green leafy vegetables and meat. You'll be fine and feel much better too.

No, cancer is just one of the things that could cause anemia. Poor diet can also cause it.

No. Anemia can occur for other reasons. Go to the doctor.
