i would say 2000$ would be plenty for 3 weeks depending upon what your doing. asuming most of it would be spent on hotel and nightlife, your food bill would run from about 1-3$ (50 to 150 php) per meal per person if you eat fast food (mcdonalds, kfc, burgerking, taco bell) or philipino food, and up to about 10$ (500 php) for expensive resturants. hotels range from 30$- 100$ per night depending on where and what hotel, most of your money would be spent on nightlife activities. beer will run from 40php to 150php in a bar (1-3$). if you budget 100$ per day that should be more than plenty with a cost of about 20$ per day for eating and 50$ per day for spending (shopping, nightlife , ect) and 30$ for hotel. most hotels will give you a discount in manila if you ask and are staying for more than 1 week. also if your bringing cash either leave it in the hotel safe when you go out or wear a money belt. DO NOT flash alot of cash around and use common sense. its always best to have a philipino along with you when you go out for 3 reasons 1) to translate tagalog for you (most speak some level of english but its always nice to know exactly what they are saying) and 2) you will be less liklely to be harassed by beggars or con artists there if they see you are acompanied by a philipino, and 3) a philipino should know thier way around the city and can also inform you while shopping if you are getting a good deal or not. also you can use atms there to get more money if needed. check with your own bank to see what the forgien atm charge fee is. (most are about 2$ per transaction) as most banks use PLUS, MAC, AND CIRRUS systems, also MC and VISA. i wouldnt think you would need to use with 2k but its always nice to know you can get money if needed. have fun

I am from the Philippines and I have friends from the US who frequently visits Manila, about four times a year for about 2-3 weeks each visit.
If you'll be staying in a 4 star hotel, that will already be about $70-$80/day. Breakfast comes as complimentary with your stay at the hotel. The rest of the food, drinks, and nightlife, transportation will be about $50-$80/day. It depends on the lifestyle you'll be likely to have during your stay. Food is relatively cheap even fine dining restaurant is quite cheap than in other countries. An average good meal will only cost you $10-$12, but if you want to try some local dishes at a fast food setting you can get a meal for $2 or less. There is a wide array of discos/bars that will suit your budget, a can or bottle of beer averages from $1 or more. Other liquors are higher. There are bars that doesnt charge for an entrance fee, some thus. If you'll be staying in a hotel, the hotel must have a bar you can probably get a discount there since you're a resident. So a $2000-$2500 budget for your leisure is abundant, you may even treat some friends.
For a 3 weeks stay, hotel accomodation with breakfast complimentary stubs alone at a 4 star hotel( the likes of Discovery Suites, Linden Suites, Crown Plaza all in Ortigas area) will cost you $1500-$2000.
With a( USD) $4,500, you'll be enjoying your stay in Manila.

For food, drinks and normal nightlife (only, no hotel) you would have trouble spending $100 / day unless you are going completely wild at expensive bars.
I guess it depends on what you want to do but to give you an idea:
Beer: 50 pesos at midrange expat bar; 120 at expensive one
Meal: 250 at a midrange restaurant; 600 at an expensive one
Entrance to bars with live music 150 pesos or less
Taxi fare from one part of town to another under 200 pesos
Extra curricular activities range from 500 to 5,000 pesos.
If you are more specific I can provide you with a better answer. You can have a great time on less than $1,000 in 3 weeks, you would have to be a serious debaucher to spend $5,000 (and even that would be hard).
BTW: Broefan15, the exchange rate is PHP49:$1, and what does that have to do with cost anyway? The fact that you get more pesos for one dollar says nothing about the relative value of either. The dollar is weakening by the day right now.

I've been to the philippines 6 times in the last 27 months and only once have I spent more than $1500 for a 18-21day stay. Staying in a 4 or 5 star hotel there is just not worth it when you factor in the cost difference. There are many under $40/night hotels that are clean, safe, and have friendly and helpful staff. When you get in a cab immediately ask them to use the meter, if they don't comply get out and find another who will use the meter. Remember many people there are living on less than $5/day and some cabbies see you as their meal ticket for that day. Be stern but pleasant at the same time when bargaining with them or anyone selling anything there. When stayinfg at a hotel make sure they have lockboxes in the hotel to keep your money and passport, just make a copy of your passport and carry that with you at all times. Keep your money in your front pocket and leave your wallet in the lockbox along with your credit cards, there are many pickpockets who may target you. All in all its a great place to visit and you will have a good time, just take precautions and keep aware of your surroundings.

I think it depends on what kind of nightlife and restaurent that you like to go in the Philippines! As much as I know, the food there is quite expensive, espacially if you like to buy some food in the Department Store or the restaurent. For the nightlife, maybe you can visit the place near Greenbelt in Lagaspi Village, Makati City. That's a very nice place but quite expensive too!

Depending on where you are staying, what town/island/city, when, and if you're spending the time with friends/special someone from the Philippines or got someone tagging along from your country 2000$ should go a long way. It helps if you know someone in the country and you can trust so you won't get ripped off (it happens a lot especially in the highly populated areas).

When I went to the Philippines in May the exchange rate was about 1USD = 50-55 pesos. So, I say you can be good with $50-100 day, but that depends on your preferences. For food, you can find combos that are less than 100 pesos...but overall, it's relatively inexpensive there so you should be able to go a long way with US dollars

Depends on which currency you are bringing. If it is US dollars, $5,000.00 will be more than enough, Shamrock, have fun!
Okay, this answer needs more explanation. It was December when I went to the Philippines so there were a lot of people that were given gifts. Got a big family, bigger extended family and lots of friends when I was in school.
They were happy; I was happy. Poorer, yes, but happy. After all, money is meant to be enjoyed. We had fun and had fabulous memorable celebrations.
The amount of money you bring depends entirely on which month you are going, how many people you plan to take out, where you will bring them and what you plan to do during your vacation.
It is a beautiful place, hope that your memories will be magnificent.

I went to phil.stayed in Angeles City north of Manila nice place to stay going to McDonalds about three dollars for a value meal and going to the grocery stores was cheap. For the night life, I went out with two other people for about two or three hours of drinking I spent twenty to twenty dollars for beer.(in pesos equals 1,500 php). So about 1500 us dollars will be good for three weeks but dont take all your money with you when you go out because it might be stolen or robbed. So keep it in a safe place in your room.Just bring enough money to last you through the day.

Oh, be sure you know someone here to keep you safe from harm. But I hope you will not meet an opportunist and later on will make you a so-called "sugar daddy" or "milking cow".
Better find a Filipino friend in your place before coming here so he/she can guide you or give you more tips. Because I don't want you to meet the same faith of my American friend who disliked me so as to be the "sugar daddy" of a 24 year old Filipina.
Use your instinct and hope you will enjoy your stay here.
