The last black man that I am aware of, who ran, was Alan Keyes...

He ran as a Republican, I believe. He was the favorite of alot of Christians, but he couldn't get the endorsement of Pat Robertson, which I think hurt his chances...

He was basically "arrested" and driven around town in a police car during the Republican convention...

I personally have always been deeply offended by this.

Because some of your past leaders made some bad decisions. The black comunity as a whole does not own much. I wish I could recall the man who said it but I remember a black mayor talking about how instead of protesting to get onto the golf courses, they should have been buying the golf courses. The result of this is that a lot of money and spending power has left the black comunity over the years.

However there is a trend where I am seeing more and more black people come into power. There is no doubt in my mind when a non-white becomes president for the first time it will be a black person to do it. I think Colin Powel had a good chance, no clue why he didn't take it.

Why hasn't a black man been able to be president?
Let's see..
1. The Lighties control the countries finances and media
2. This country is really 5 countries and 2 of them, the Old South and the Republic of Texico are racial environments (at least, more so than the rest of the country) that would never vote for a black man
3. If you are black, you walk past a white woman on a deserted street, what does she do with her purse? Who do you think she's going to vote for.
4. The most "premier" country in the world is actually one of the most back water when it comes to everything besides brute force and big bombs
5. I'm white and I'd vote for a black man, but not because he was black. I'd vote if I thought he was the best candidate. So..Mr. Questioner, where is he?

Lots of white people, native Americans and Asians also helped build the foundation of America, so your question contains a false premise. Blacks still constitute a minority in America, at about 12% of the total population. There are actually more Hispanics than blacks currently in the USA (thanks to illegal immigration). Anyways, no one is going to elect a candidate that has a chip on his/her shoulder. Blacks got screwed in America, but they've been screwed by pretty much every other country on earth, including their homeland of Africa. The USA takes the brunt of the criticism because we are the big boy on the block and allow more freedoms than any other country period. Americans DO NOT want to hear about how bad black America has it. We don't want to hear about reparations, we don't want to hear about special privileges/laws for blacks, basically, we don't want to hear any whining. America has a plethora of problems, and making sure each black person is 100% satisfied with retributions from a past that current living whites had nothing to do with is not at the top of the list. A moderate like Barack Obama is your best hope.

Great question.

Why hasn't a women been able to rule the USA? There are more women than men voters.

Would you vote for someone based on their skin color, or their merits? Which is more important to you?

Who do you think is the best person to run the USA, irregardless of skin color?

If you want a black man as president, how dark should his skin be, does he have to be very dark, or will medium dark be sufficient to rule the USA?

well, if we're trying to create a country where Color is blind; then, your question and opinion would seem to be racially biased. This country was also built upon the labor of poor white people (eastern european immigrants, irish, native american, asian, hispanic and middle eastern peoples). Therefore, your blanket assumption that it was only the black race that has suffered is racist and biased. I would have voted for Colin Powell in the past and will vote for Senator Obama if given the change. So take your prejudice and stick it where the sun doesn't shine.

The fact that you want to "rule" the US would make me not want to vote for you. But if you notice, no women has been elected president either. Even countries like Chile, which just recently got out from underneath a repressive dictatorship, have already had women presidents. The US is behind the times.

Well,

If Michael Steele were to run for President Id vote for him..why?

He is a upstanding person and is someone I would support.

If Ray Nagin ran for President Id think the Dems REALLY have hit a low point.

NO school bus, no peace!

blacks did built much of america and it's wealth. but they didn't mastermind anything

but blacks could have done better if their leaders hand't all been murdered by the CIA

so i still see the blacks as being in bondage.

coming from canada, here the french people got their own province. why didn't blacks get their own state at least. then there would be mroe black represeentataion as black people had their own state they could start doing their own things

but that will never happen in America.

Because there are still plenty of "Good Ol' Boys" who will never, ever elect a woman for President, let alone a Black man.
