Talked with people face-to-face. Read books. Wasted less time.

Dear Mandy:

That's a great question!
I find it strange that we all hide out in our rooms and chat with someone from half a world away on the Internet and then we barely speak to the people who we share a roof with.

We know more about our favorite Hollywood stars than we do about our own family members.

I grew up in the 70's, long before the Internet, MTV, Ipods and CD players. We spent lots of time just hanging around the neighborhood and having fun. Everybody knew each other and your neighbor's mom was likely to be one of your favorite people. Everyone in the neighborhood looked out for each other and nobody worried about their children getting snatched by perverts! We left the car keys in our unlocked cars and hardly ever locked our back doors.

I'm not sure what all this says about our culture now, but I fear for my country when I consider that God is just.

I miss the good old days.

God bless! :)

:) watch tv mostly, listen to radio, play sport, games like jigshaw puzzles, ride bikes, and read books.
:) when a teacher asked us a question we would scratch our head and mumble "wait till internet comes!" lol.
:) we ate more slowly and ate well!
:) We walked more to see our friends and family, walked in super markets more. Our Backyard gardens did not look so desserted. We burnt more calories; we were a little less fatty!
:) phones were our emails, living-rooms were our chat rooms, hand shakes were the networks and our faces were the eemoticons. god we miss'um all!
:) coffee tasted better at the porch! the browsers were the newspapers, books and magazines. We had more fun reading and we enjoyed more. Kids used to learn reading by watching their parents read.
:) played pac-man with our bosses and some of us got fired on the spot. We still play because we see that our boss plays too.
:) "virtual" was in our computer's womb. We married the persons whom we gave real "kisses"
:) and those of us who were dumped by their lovers remained sad longer than today!
:) we studied much harder to do our home works.
:) the fun at library was only watching microfilms and fish!
:) business meetings was more fun. Some time when meetings took place in a far land, company gave us air tickets to see newyork or sydney!
:) companies did not hang notebooks in our necks and we were husbands/wives at home.
:) women never had to say "am i not enough for you?" to a man using a computer. We did not worry much about computer breaking our marriages and relationships.
:) we saw our friends and family only by travelling and some of us never got to see them.
:) writing a letter on a piece of paper with our delicate hands and the taste from licking a stamp was more fun and we did it all the time. When we received a hand written letter it touched us more than today.
:) we, lol, well...scientists were working even in their sleeps before the internet. They created internet so can they can get some sleep! One of the unknown scientist said "let their be more software than people. let us save the human race. We call this one beta, that one alpha, that is patch 1, and this one is bug fix 2007. Let internet also be an experiment to create errors, bugs and fixes. Let internet help us find e-pals from the other planets!" :) lol :-) :*

Well, the Internet used can be for many things as you know,or did you mean how did we spend our time, I still do many of those things like reading, watching TV going out with friends and family, the Internet now allows us access to so much more information, and also to keep in touch with a wider circle of friends.

A little thing called the Library. Hard to imagine a time, not to long ago, when you actually had to get up out of our seat and go to a building that only had access to a few thousand books. But hey it wasn't all that long ago either when people used horses as their main mode of transportation.

We spent less time sitting down using computers obviously, we had a lot more time on our hands to read books, talk to friends and family face to face, outdoor activities sports etc. All in all in the long run, we may have been a lot more happier as people in general.

Washed the giant pile of pots in the kitchen, ploughed through an ironing pile the size of Mount Vesuvius, spent time with loved ones. All the things that I should be doing now in fact!

I know.. that is really something think about isn't it. I find I turn to the internet for everything, shopping, email, directions, jobs, schooling, even the weather and news! It's amazing really. I don't know about you but I would be totally LOST if I did not have access to the net. It's crazy!
