I'm wonderring when they're going to start an actual war against each other. It's going to come to that. We know nothing but war. Lord forbid we get along. Apparently, it would be the end of the world.

Actually, this isn't the worst political fighting in US history. (I'm assuming you are speaking of American politics since many Yahoo users are from the US. My apologies if I am wrong.)

Before and after the Civil War was much worse--there was an acutal fistfight in Congress. Politicians would regularly call each other rapists and murderers during these times. What we have today is mostly similar to early Cold War politics; substitute "terrorist" for "Communist" and you have the same paranoia, sleaze, and race to be virulently anti-terrorist (or Communist) than the other guy.

Some conflict is almost guaranteed even if people played nice, because we can differ greatly on how to help the country and its citizens. Is abortion right or wrong? Where do individual rights end and group right begin? Who should pay for schools? There are too many questions without real answers for us to 'get along'.

Wow. Because people have different ideas and opinions, that's why! The idea is that everyone is allowed to have an actual choice when they go to vote, and pick the one that suits their values. I shudder to think of any alternatives to that!

The "war" is only words at this point, and that's fine with me.

Political parties stem from our need to discuss, disagree, and find common ground with others of a likeminded ilk.
