Clark & Belmont area (close to Wrigley Field). Great shopping, great bars, good music venue (the Metro), and the Improv Olympics (comedy club) The only think I don't like about it is that I am not a Cubs fan.
Best restaurants: Ron of Japan on Ontario, and Pazzo's on Monroe and Wacker (I said Wacker heehee) - their lobster ravioli is to die for.
Millenuim Park, where you can see The Bean (a giant metal sculpture that cost millions of dollars and you can marvel at the wasting of taxpayer's money)
City Hall, where you can spend hours watching the Feds carry out seized property from the mayor's office
Navy Pier: huge Ferris wheel, Imax theatre, and the Children's museum. I am sad to report there are no children on display.
Museum of Science and Industry
Field Museum
Dave & Busters..where else can you go get hammered and play video games?

The Lakefront: The weather's kinda crappy now, but you might get lucky and get one or two more good days. Actually, go to North Ave. Beach on New Year's Day and watch the Polar Bears run into the lake and come out freezing. Those people are NUTS.
Belmont/Clark area: Lots of shops. Pretty cool.
Devon ave.: Walking down the street is like going to India without the 10 hour flight. Lots of shops, food, smells, sounds, etc...
Water Tower Place: Just to see what sort of ultimately useless crap people will throw their money away on ("Look honey, a fur-covered toaster oven!"
Green Mill jazz club: No matter what night of the week it is, there's always good music there.
Pilsen: Sort of like going down Devon, except it's a Mexican neighborhood. The food smells GREAT. Go check out the Mexican Fine Arts Museum.
Field Museum: Not as noisy as the Museum of Science and Industry. And you can actually learn something there, as opposed to just running around and pushing buttons to see what happens.

Lest begin with the planetarium, shedd aquarium and the museum; all standing next to each other along with one of the most amazing views of the chicago city.
Michicgan avenue has a lot to offer; from excellent restaurants, to great shopping outlets to an amazing look at the chic architecture, one place to be in. Navy pier is good for chilling out with friends and family. John hancock centre and its signature room are one cool place to visit, cant miss that out. A drive down the lake shore and a visit to Rogers park can be good too, since that is one of those few places in Chicago that actually has no segregation.

Make sure to stop at the Signature Room Lounge on the 95th floor in the John Hancock building for a couple drinks. You get a great view of the city (without having to pay to get to the 95th floor) and some nice cocktails. I prefer going there at night.
