Battlestar Gallactica has the luxury of having non human enemies, so social comparisons are not valid with our modern world. Plus the humans are fighting against their own genocide, hardly a brave political stand!

Suicide bombers who attack military objectives are heroes.

Suicide bombers who attack non-combatants are terrorists.

Islamic guerillas who attacked the marines in Beruit or the USS Cole however odious their political agenda, are not terrorists by this definition.

The men who flew the planes into the WTC on 911 were terrorists, as are the ones who blow themselves up in coffee shops and bus stations.

It is precisely because it's "fair and balanced" that they do storylines like this. The whole point is to get you to see things from another point of view. If you were in the situation that they are in, would you resort to having suicide bombers in order to further your cause? It's a tough question, and you may disagree with their choice. But what makes it good drama is that it gets you to think about it.
