Yes, the Amish community does this. It's called "wilding" and they are allowed to go out into the regular world and then decide which one they want to live in. 90% come back to the Amish community and the other 10% stay out in the "regular" world. Hope this settles your debate!

This is a practice of the Amish. They know they have a hard life, so they want their children to know what they are giving up before they make their final decision on whether or not to continue that lifestyle. What you may be confused about is that the Amish ARE Mennonite. Being Amish is a tradition within the Mennonite church. Other Mennonites do not have the restrictive life that the Amish do. Amish contractors here in Indiana often will hire Mennonites to drive them to and from job sites. The Mennonites still believe in simplicity, but they do use modern conveniences. My father is an architect, and he once designed a Mennonite church. They didn't object to his use of round walls, for example, because it was still a simple style.

At the age of 16 they are aloud to decide which community they would like to live in. I don't believe the amish do the same.

yes there is a movie about it. it is very interesting. it is called 'the devils playground'. it follows a bunch of amish/menonite teenagers as they first go into our world and how they party and enjoy our world before returning to give their oath to be amish.
