What an old fashioned word! Gosh, I haven`t heard it called that for years, For the uninitiated, it is a sweater usually made of wool or mixed yarns,it`s purpose is of course is to keep you warm. It is quick and easy to put on, you `jump` into it. It is an item of clothing that was acceptable for one to put on in mixed company, as it did not entail showing any more of the body, than had previously been in sight, quite the opposite,In the nineteen twenties and thirties, they were very popular with the varsity young bloods, who seemed to prefer wearing them with the two sleeves tied in a knot around their necks and the actual garment hanging down over their backs.
