Who is next in line to host the 2010 WC if South Africa can't handle it?

I'm sure they'll be able to handle it. I was just having a conversation and the topic came up and I was stumped for an answer.

There is a whole host of reasons why South Africa is incapable of hosting the World Cup not the least of which is their violent crime rate. More than 50 murders a day, a woman raped every 10 minutes, 3 children a day raped, serious assaults , gang heists and a major drug problem. They haven't even started with building anything for the World Cup and FIFA are aware of it so are sending a representative to get them off their butt's. But their is a shortage of all kinds of building materials with up to a 4 month delay on bricks and cement. The AA say they require to spend about R40 billion on resurfacing their roads to get them back to some sort of order and comment that SA is the only place in the World where they see road maintenance as putting up signs saying " Beware of Potholes." There is not nearly enough Hotel space and all in all it was a very bad decision to let such a prestigious Tournament go to a 3rd World Country. Word on the street is that Blatter now realises his mistake but with FIFA elections coming up in early 2007 he needs the African vote to be re elected. Thereafter the Tornament will be removed from SA. The US is the favourite to get it with Australia also being mentioned but it may be too early for the Aussies although they have all the facilities.

The next World cup could be a disaster. Sep Blatter's political visions are way out this one. As are they all. Football (soccer to the uneducated) in SA is a minority black sport. Just seee how many are at the games every week.
The only sports to benfit will be the white mans sports. Rugby and cricket. They will get the new grounds after the event is over. One thing SA can't do is provide High Definition television. Which was previso for getting the 2010 WC.
Fifa should make the decision and name Australia as the venue.

I think the U.S. wants to out in another bid to host before 2018, we would certainly be able to handle a quick change of venue, especially given the fact that we have three soccer specific stadiums for clubs and will have a 4th by then, plus all of the other stadiums that can be used. Just a thought, I would love to see another WC here in the states, I was too young to appreciate the last one in 94.

As Blatter said, he's seen the designs, the plans, the alleged finance he just hasn't seen any work been done. A lot of work to be done in 3 and half years. I think England and a few other countries are in the second tier as a back up plan. Lets hope the South Africans can't manage it then.

South Africa wouldn't be able to handle it becuase they are WAY behind schedule for construction of all the venues. Not to mention they previously estimated the total cost of all the new construction would be around $2 billion, and now the recalculated it and estimated the cost to be around $10 billion... thats a big fking difference!

Honestly, South Africa is a beautiful and able country that is advancing quickly, but this is a momentous task and I don't know if they are up to it.

i seriously doubt it will be australia. korea/japan was pretty bad......football isn't that popular in australia, it's biggest in europe and areas near to there. it would be a nightmare for the sponsers and the fans watching

although i've read that if south africa doesn't get its act together the usa, mexico, australia or even germany again could all be in the running
