I never thought so, but I do know quite a few black guys named Demetrius, but that's a different spelling and orgin.

No it is not a "black" name. It's primarily a Greek and Eastern European name.

Dimitri is the Russian version of Demetrius whose origins are Greek. Dates back to approx 500BCE

Dimitri may be a Russian name and commonly used in Europe, but here in the US, it is a name commonly used by African Americans. If you really like it though, you should use it anyway.

LOL, Okay....... I have a cosin named demetrius and a godchild whose middle name is Demitri. I don't know if that helps or not, but htey're both black. If you like the name use it.

Dimitri, or Dmitri is russian but is un use all over eastern europe.

the name is rooted in the name demetrios, which was in use classic greece and later as demetrius in east rome.

It's of Russian origin, and indeed comes from Demetrius, and means Lover of the Earth.

I too, thought it Greek. I remember the movie Demetrius and the Gladiators,and i think he was to be Greek.

I think its greek or roman. But i guess its used by mainly black folks like Leroy or Calvin (I know so many black men with this Celtic name).

I suppose certain racial and socioeconomic groups prefer certain names.
