I have 3 (for now - more to come) closets that I want to replace the bi-fold doors with sliding doors. I have already removed the doors and painted the facing/trim. The width is 72 inches - would 2 X 36" doors work or do I need more overlap?? What hardware do I need? I'd like white raised panel or louvered doors. Where would be the best place to buy? The doors do not need to be solid wood but sturdy enough to hold up in a child's bedroom. I'm assuming a pre-hung solution wouldn't work well since all the facing/trim is already there? BTW - I am very ignorant about this right now!!!

The prehund may be your best bet. if it is a little too short you an alway add another peice of lumber such as a 2x4 or 2/4 and frame around it.
Take your measurements to Lowes or Home Depot and they will give you your best shot.
the 72 inches is your rough measurement or total measurement form wall to wall of the frame? if not you have extera room to play with. besure to take the total measurement (height from floor to top of the door frame,) and from side to side of the frame.

Home improvement stores sell sliding door kits that contain the doors, top rail and a divider that mounts to the floor to keep the doors separated.
You'll need to remove the track for your existing bi-folds so you can mount the rail for sliders. Once you have removed the old doors and hardware measure the rough opening-- the height & width and take these measurements to your home improvement store. I'd suggest staying away from masonite board doors because it's too easy to break holes in them but go instead for wood veneer doors that are cheaper than solid wood but sturdier than masonite. Good luck -- it's a relatively easy job.
