It goes the same place it does when the lightbulb is on. It gets absorbed into the walls, and also the air absorbs some (ever notice you can't see as far on a humid day?). When the light is turned off, it's that the bulb is no longer producing it, because the filament inside only glows when electricity runs through it.

Since light is traveling at 186,000 miles/second, your reaction time is not quick enough to notice the time is takes to reach the wall and is blocked. Any going out the window would probably travel forever but would be to weak too be measured. If you turned off the sun it would take about 7 minutes for you to notice that the light was off.

when u switch the lights off...u disconnect the circut that's produced. thus the flow of electricity stops because that path isn't "whole." when u switch it back on...the circut is whole again...and the electrons can flow to give off light.

i aint no scientist but light is like sound, its waves. when no more waves r being generated, like when u turn of the switch, no more light. where the waves go that WERE generated, well, like ace said, thats a good Q.
