Summer solstice means maximal visible inclination that Sun will achieve in zenith the following day. But it has nothing to do with actual climate, because the atmosphere is very thermodynamically inertial.

by june 21, the days are at their longest (summer solstice), however, the ground takes a while to "heat up." this is called "lag time."

its the day where you get the most sunlight. doesnt neccessarily have to mean that it is the hottest day of the year
