I just built my computer but when i go to audio devices, it says nothing is plugged in. I have onboard sound and device manager shows all drivers are up to date. I put the speaker wire which is lime colored into the lime colored slot yet nothing. Do I have to enable/disable something in the bios?

Thanks in advance.

Try and find a place to plug in a set of headphones.
Use headphones to see if the machine is processing any sounds.
Also look to see if you have another power cord to plug in AC to the speakers.
Most onboard sound outputs are only a line level output is not strong enough to actually drive a speaker, So you probably have powered speakers that need plugged into the wall also.

Go into Start/Settings/Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices/advanced speaker settings
to select the speaker configuration.

I would suspect that it is your sound card. The sound card should come with installation and testing software. Usually there is an option to check if the installation was successful, the program will play something from the left speaker, right speaker, then both. If you can hear that, then you've got sound. If that doesn't work, then maybe the sound card is defective. More often than not, there is a simple solution - are the speakers receiving power? Is the speaker plug defective? I wouldn't rely on your "device manager" or the Windows "troubleshooting" options to figure this out.

Hi there;
While the other answers are awesome and give you solid solutions you also may want to track down the on-board sound for the Mobo. Check to make sure that the drivers are installed properly. Also, make sure that if your speakers are powered off the comp, your PSU has enough push to power them as well as your drives and vid card(s). I am running with a 600W PCiE so that I have enough to take over the world on any given Saturday night. Good luck. :)

if everything is enabled in the bios goto control panel then sounds and audio devices make sure your sound card or onboard sound is the choice for default sound goto the advanced part of it and see if the wave box is muted if it is then uncheck it.
also your speakers might need a power souce check into that
goto the manufacture of motherboard or pd and get the lastest drivers for the sound device

are any lights fixtures in any respect flashing on the case itself including a capacity or HDD indicator? Btw, do you have a HDD or SSD? ok, stupid question, of course you do... If the exterior build worked, then you definately've gotten by probability forgotten to plug interior the connector from the capacity button on the case to the motherboard.
