RE:
Can a practising Roman Catholic become Prime minister of Britain, or can they marry the queen?

I believe the Real Presence is most important why I love the Catholic Church. There is nothing I dislike particularly about the Catholic Church. I do dislike how some people even Catholics often time present the teachings of the Catholic Church. I heard a former Baptist minister state that despite the shortcomings and sometimes horrible failures of the Popes in the past the Rock has always remained. I found what I often heard from schoolmates who were Catholic in the past were simplications of their understanding of Catholic teaching. Mary was something at first I wasn't so sure about but have become more and more aware of her importance as a good friend. Actually we believe everyone in Heaven is a saint and those people can help us by their prayers on our life journey. If you feel someone is in Heaven there is no reason you can't asked them to pray for you. I have had some experiences in the past 4 of 5 years that have made me aware of a friend I have in Heaven.

A Roman Catholic may become Prime Minister - but just try and get elected once you announce the fact. The second part of the question concerns English Law and the Monarch. The Monarch cannot marry a Catholic - he she must marry a Protestant.

A Bill giving emancipation to Catholics was passed in the House of Commons [c1830s] by the Duke of Wellington, then PM, it cost him his job, poor bloke.

The Queen is the head of the church of England. If she was free to marry she could marry a roman catholic but they would not be allowed to let their religion interfere with her role. There is no rule that states that we cannot have a roman catholic prime minister but he/she would not be allowed to use their position to move that faith in to the public eye.

Yes, Tony Blair is a practising Catholic. There was a bit of fuss about ti when he was first elected, but it's legal. And yes, a practising Catholic can now marry a member of the royal family and ascend the throne, the law was changed to allow Charles to marry Camilla.

Blair is a practicing catholic but there is a rule that states that stops Catholics from ascending to the British throne or marrying into it. Im not sure why they kept it around because to my knowledge any other religion is fine. Also the rules were changed so Charles could marry a divorcee. I don't believe Camilla is Catholic.

For details go back to Henry VIII. He had one or two marital problems which he never quite resolved with the papacy.

Hey, Tony baby (I didn't know you were a left footer and Cheri too? No trouble with them but the Royal primate be they real or imaginary (as in Charles' case) or Wills or Harry. I shouldn't think so as the protector of the faith usually means C of E, at least since Henry VIII got busy dissolving monasteries. all over Anne Boleyn whose vital fluids ended up all over the headsman's block. Could that Be why Charles wants it to be protector of the faiths to encapsulate our multi cultural society.
So my answer to that is maybe it is alright on both counts.

Dont see why not, the person would only be a fan of a particular storybook anyway. No differant to being a fan of Harry Potter, or The Lord Of The Rings. (although those two books are of course more believable than the bible book)
