My fiance works from 11:00pm-7:00am so he comes home and sleeps during the day. I work day hours, so when I get home if he's not already awake I will give him a little kiss on the cheek or forehead to let him know Im home. That usually wakes him up a little. Well we had plans to go to my parents house for dinner and he knew that. I told him to make sure he goes to bed right away when he gets home so he gets plenty of rest to be awake when I get home. Well I go to wake him up and he mumbles something like "I didn't get much sleep" and so I say "Hun, please get up we had plans to go visit my parents and have dinner since last week" He says "Why can't we wait and go later?" I said "Look we have to go soon or the food will get cold, are you going or no?" He said "Look Im going okay just shut up" I get frusterated walk out and 5 minutes later come back in and he's sitting up and says "hi hunny, ready to go?" I yelled at him and he was clueless to what he said to me. Do think he's lieing?

His reaction is not out of the ordinary for someone being awakened. His brain was only catching the main gist of what you were saying "Get up NOW", and it was responding "I'm tired, I want to sleep more, (whatever it is you're suggesting I stop sleeping for) can't it wait until later?" His "Look I'm going OK just shut up comment", was just his sub-conscience's last gasp at getting you to leave it alone so it could sleep". When we are in that "near sleep" state our normal "socially appropriate behavior" triggers are not activated and many people say things like that, that they would never say when wide awake. Cut him some slack he was still half asleep. Hey, in the overall scheme of thing his "Shut UP" comment is not all that bad. I mean, at least he didn't say, "Yeah, I know I need to get back home to my girlfriend before she realizes I'm with you again, but give me another minute I need just a little more sleep".

Why did you yell at him, I think you expect too much. Sure if you are half asleep you wouldn't remember either, why couldn't you just be happy that he did wake up, and willing to go to dinner.

Just because you told him to go to bed right away, doesn't mean he fell asleep right away, do you go to bed as soon as you get home from work? Aren't you being a bit hard on your husband?

Appreciate the little things it will make the big things that more easier to handle. Hope you had a good time at your mom's.

My boyfriend used to do this a lot when he was working a job that was not only physically exhausting, but he was also not getting enough sleep. He would say the silliest things and not remember them. I began writing them down because I thought they were so hilarious. He would sometimes have long nonsensical conversations with me. Other conversations had a lot of truthful facts in them. He would never remember anything he said and when I told him, we would both laugh about it.
Anything is possible, but I would give your fiance the benefit of the doubt.

No, he isn't lying. My brother talks in his sleep also. When we were younger and living with our parents, he would shout from his room and ask me weird questions like "do you want to go play baseball? or want to go bowling?" And I will still, when he stays with me go in to wake him up and he will answer me and talk to me and then later when he actually gets up, remembers nothing of our conversations.
