How do you know if you have a red belly perhina or a red belly pacu?

Pacu's have a beak like mouth where both top and bottom lip meet at the same point,where as piranha's have an underbite,this is cause by the bottom lip being larger and longer than the top

piranha are small for most of their lives with a jaw that really juts out, allowing the teeth to be easily seen. pacu grow to be larger, average is 3 feet. pacu are omnivores, so a feeding test is not in order. check the age of this fish, and the dependability of the dealer, and you could easily tell the difference.

Pacus are blacker (and probably larger) and their teeth will probably be less pronounced. Pacus are also vegatarian (I think)
because I've seen villagers fish for them with crab apples.
