I hear this term constantly with teenagers. It is really hard to keep up with them changing the meanings of words.

The gothic stereotype

Many stereotypes of goths exist these days. It seems everyone has their own way to define 'what is goth'. From the stereotypes based on clothing to music right up to the stereotypes of all goths being satanists or part of some kind of cult. Categorically, all of these are false.

The goth scene is just as widely varied as society in general. There are many different professions represented in the scene, from highly skilled professionals like doctors and lawyers, to tradesman, to technically minded people to clerical workers. Many different musical tastes exist (and not all of them goth, there is a HUGE 80's following in the goth scene for some reason). The fashion varies vastly from goth to goth from the traditional flowing victorian style garments to the buckled and studded style regalia (also called industrial style, which is often closely related with goths, and have come to an understanding of co-existance, if uneasily at times).

The Bible speaks of many geographic locations by their tribal names that are now known by other names. With regard to Ezekiel chapter 38, it is referring to the reduced boundaries of the extinct Ottoman Empire. Rosh once belonged to the Israelite tribe of Benjamin (now a Hamas time-bomb north of Jerusalem.) Gog was once the Reubenite tribal territory and is now Jordan. Magog is Georgia, which fell to Islamic control by Turkey / Iran in the sixteenth century. Persia is known as Iran. Tubal, Meshack, Gomer and Togarmach are today's Turkey. These countries extending around the Mediterranean to Ethiopia (Sudan) and Libya and others are said in Ezekiel's prophecy to initiate a suicidal attack on Israel. Some folks think Joel Richardson's map in the book "Mideast Beast" (based on the Schofield Reference Bible) speaks of Georgia and Russia and Central Asia as the central players in the fulfilled prophecy about God and Magog, but I'm not sure about that. It would depend on Schofield being correct.

I've been decribed as a goth, but I don't want to be one. They think I'm creepy because i'm into heavy metal, and at school, I dress in boy clothing. My black hair only makes it worse.
