According to the mechanic there are many parts that need to be disassembled before removing the starter and replacing it. I thougt about taking the lexus to the dealership, but I'm afraid it will cost me a lot more. I got some estimates for around $300.00 from some of yahoos's participants. Is this correct, or I'm getting riped-off? Thank you for your inpute any mechanic out there.

that does sound really high to me but some lexus eng have the starter under the upper intake so you have to disassemble part of the eng to get to the starter and replace it.

Aftermarket starters for Lexus typically run about $150.
A "real" Lexus starter would probably cost more, but what benefit is that? Afterall, how well did the OEM starter serve you?

That leaves $900 labor. So, the mechanic is suggesting that the project will take all day, and may half the next day.

It's possible, but you can get a quote from the dealer for free.

Get on the phone and get some quotes in your area.

sounds like a rip off to me if i was you either do it yourself or have a friend help replacing a starter is not that hard just disconnect the negative end of your battery before you do anything.
