Generally speaking all internal combustion engines need two things to start - fire and fuel.
In other words, if your car is cranking, you know your starter is turning over and therefore power to your starter. What you don't know is 1) if the ignition system is delivering current to your spark plugs, and therefore if your plugs are firing or, 2) if your fuel system is delivering fuel to the injectors and the injectors are introducing fuel/air mixture into the cylinders.
That's about all that can be diagnosed over the internet from your brief description.
If you're looking for a troubleshooting manual, I'm going to assume you know how to check for spark, how to backtrack your system if that's the problem. However, I'm also assuming the car is fuel injected, and if so I can only suggest a knowledgeable repair shop if your injectors are failing.
Sorry I can't be more help, hope this provides a little direction.
Best to you.

Try going to the Volkswagon website and contacting someone that works for them. They should be able to send you a manual.
