There are many social and political issues. And what one considers "moderate" will always depend on where one sits politically. I am very liberal politically, so people who have been called "moderate" - like Bill Clinton, Al Gore and John McCain - are conservative from my perspective. I view these people as conservative because I still believe that anyone who agrees in principle with Saddam Hussein and Adolph Hitler on the subject of premeditated killing ("the death penalty") and disagrees sharply with Desmond Tutu, Martin Luther King, Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Theresa, Pope John Paul II and Jesus Christ on the death penalty issue is conservative. You see, what is "moderate" is relative.

The same reason that semi-conservatives are called "moderates", like John McCain or (God help me) Arnold Schwarzegger: because they are closer to the middle than the extreme left or extreme right. When you are extreme you increase your risk of being extremely wrong.

Why would you call a moderate a semi-lib, neocon?

Why does everyone have to be labeled for political purposes?

I'm fairly liberal on some issues (like women's right to choose, keeping churches out of schools, etc.) but fairly conservative when it comes to other issues (like a strong military, the death penalty, owning guns, etc.)

The point is I don't consider myself either a Liberal or a Conservative?

Why the hell do so many of you people always want to put labels on everyone, thinking you're either for us or against us?
