There is nothing more painful or all-consuming than the physical and mental pain of a broken heart. Pain can be felt both mentally and physically with a broken heart. The mental pain is sometimes a little harder to resolve.

I believe that a broken heart is both.
I was inlove with this guy and when I told him, he said he didnt like me at all and wanted to date my best friend. My heart was broken, I was mad as hell that my friend went out with him, so I stopped talking to her, to everyone, thinking that well they will do the same to me one day. (Mental) And then I stopped eating, I didnt take care of my self. I was lazy but wanted to go run around. Hopeing that it was the way I looked, because the way I look could change. (Physical)
It hurts both ways, and its not fair.

A broken heart is actually emotional and although it does feel physical its not really. The surge of emotions may cause a lot of physical symptoms like headache, stomach pains, diarrhea and whatever else people feel when they are extremely upset.

Definitely both. Everyone knows the mental symptoms; crying, inability to concentrate, irritability, etc., but it also causes physical symptoms such as fatigue, dizzyness, over or under eating, insomnia, stomach problems etc.
This may not be the case for everyone, but that has been my experience. And time is the only thing that helps.

It's all mental.
The heart isn't even really involved...
Love is a state of being. An emotion.
Sometimes it can become a physical pain like getting the flu, not wanting to eat,ect...

Totally mental. The brain causes it to feel physical.

It can be both! You can be so emotionally pained that it will effect your body. Like when you're severely depressed, you get headaches, your muscles and bones seem to ache, and you are extremely tired all of the time.
