I had new fencing put in. It's the new 1 1/2 inch electric mesh tape. Our fence posts in the front and the sides are 8 feet apart and the back ones are about 12 feet apart. We are putting the regular insulator clips on every post. But we also have tensioners or tighteners whatever they are called and we didn't put any of those on yet. How many posts apart should these be put on to keep the tape tight and in place? The mesh tape is powered solar not actually plugged in to an outlet, so it is environment-friendly and doesn't put a hole in our pocket. SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY! please only answer if you actually know what I am talking about!

You're talking about horse fencing. I know because I have whole lines of the 1 1/2 wide stuff myself.

You need tensioners at the end of every row. Make sure you get the good brand... the cheap ones don't hold and the tape will sag.

The sagging is prevented more by the tension than the posts. I think if I recall correctly my posts are at least 10' apart (wood with plastic insulators)

Solar chargers are very good. The secret to making any electric fence work well is a really good ground. Spend the extra time to put in 3 conductive posts/pipes in deep into the earth. Your charger will have instructions on placement.

Tip: buy only the quality fence tape. I bougt some offbrand stuff for $40/roll and it doesn't have many conductive wires and it tends to sag alot more. The best, longest lasting I got was about $120 a roll. I think the name was SafeGuard or something like that? For a mid-range choice Bayard also puts out a version, but I didn't care for the ugly yellow stripes in it.

If you have any other questions, just drop me a private message. I've used electric fence tape for years and it's one of the safest and most affordable kind of horse fences out there.
