A roof of straw would provide shelter and turn the stones into a community hall. The roof could be taken off easily for astrological events.

Not me. Stonehenge was a way for the druids to map celestial events. Sorry but having a roof would have have allowed them to do that.
PS There is evidence that the Colosseum in Rome had a roof. It was a cloth roof but it was a roof never the less.

I don't, I'm sure that a roof would ruin the intent of being a star marker, it would block the stars.

I doubt it did - seems like there would be some evidence if there had been a roof - and many structures of that size were roof-less - like in Rome.

I doubt if we will ever know......... any ideas are just that - purely conjecture.
But at least the bits in books about the stones are actually true - they exist. Unlike the fables written in the bible book, which are pure fabrication by many individuals.

actually after seeing it. i thought for sure they had an enclosed patio for keeping out bugs as well and also an area for playing Lawn Jarts. but i dont see that stuff on any of the brochures.
