The man is on constant over kill. When he starts talking he never shuts his mouth. Even in the middle of a key play in progress he continues to break every single pitch down to the smallest detail. It really gets on my nerves. Am I alone or does anyone agree?

I think the reason he does talk so much is because he really doesn't prepare for each game. He always seems to resort to just a lot of technical stuff that isn't relative to the actual game that are covering. He always gives everything in the form of a theory are how it should be in his mind. He rarely gives credit where credit is due. He might have been a decent player but he certainly is not a very good announcer. Frankly I think he really wasn't good enough to be a Hall of Famer.

You couldn't be more correct - the man is a fool who does nothing but spout nonsense and talk about the great teams on which he played. He admittedly doesn't watch a lot of games, and I guarantee that he's only seen some of these playoff teams (anyone not based in southern California) a few times this season. If you read his ESPN chats, it's amazing how often he cops out by saying he's not familiar with a player or team.

Joe also fails to utilize statistics or evidence to back up any of his points, instead just making stuff up on the spot. I guess that's why he has a web site (Fire Joe Morgan) dedicated to his awfulness.

Chief above me is correct, too - give me a Harwell or Vin Scully any day, someone who knows the game but doesn't have to remind you of that every five seconds.

FINALLY. Someone else out there thinks that Joe Morgan is a pitiful commentator. Every Sunday night when I watch baseball I dread when Joe Morgan is broadcasting.

His comments are usually short-sighted and lack the kind of analysis that a former player should be able to provide. Plus he looks at everything from when he was playing the game, as opposed to how it's played today.

He comes across quite pretentious in his comments. I'm surprised Jon Miller doesn't tell him to just shut up. He gives the impression that since he played baseball he knows exactly what the players on the field are thinking and why they do the things they do.

SHUT THE TRAP MORGAN!!!

I despise Joe Morgan.

Here is why.

He HATES the A's. I cannot stand to watch an A's game when he is commentating along with Johnny Miller. Dont get me wrong. I like Johnny Miller. Hes a jolly old guy. I like him. I think sometimes he wants to punch Joe, but thats beside the point.

Joe Morgan always talks down on the A's when he has a chance. He complains about how they dont bunt enough, but when they bunt in a game to advance the runner and eventually score, he gives them no praise, or he will say something like "well they would win a lot more games if they learned to do that in other situations", etc.

It just drives me nuts that he can be so negative toward them. A mate of mine told me that he dislikes the A's franchise because at one time, apparently he wanted to purchase them with several other people, and something happened and it never went through.

If its because of something like that, that is rediculous, and a person who is that negative toward a team should not be able to commentate for that broadcast.

It seems like however, no matter what the game is, he cannot shut his mouth. He thinks he is the baseball guru, and while he does have some interesting input on baseball technique and what not, he needs to let up.

So yes, i agree completely lol

I don't know who's worse, Morgan or his sidekick Jon Miller (who is a bumbling idiot) I HATE when they do the Sunday night games. They take a point, go over and over it and finally beat it to a pulp. I lose interest in what they're talking about. With cable TV ,I'd mute the TV and put on the radio broadcast. Can't do that now, with DirecTv there's an 8 second delay between the radio (ahead) and TV and a lot happens in those 8 seconds!

You're definitely not alone. I respected Morgan as a player but does his HOF status qualify him for announcing? I think not. Just another example of how it's all about the ratings for the networks. Gotta have a brand name in the mix somewhere, eh?

To combat this, I've got the game on and flip the audio to the radio broadcast. It may not be perfect but it's an improvement.

Finally I'm among friends. Like you I thought I was alone in my thinking. I'm watching the game too at the moment and Morgan is a major pain in the azz!! Great question!

He is also amazingly arrogant for someone who was a part (albeit a very good one) of one of the greatest teams of the last 50 years.

Baseball announcers aren't what they used to be. Give me Vin Scully, Harry Carey and Joe Garagiola over most of these idiots today.

I despise the man, hate him with every escence of my being. I whish he and buck could have their tounges cut out. I rememebr watching twins yankees playoff game two years ago and he spent the whole game talking about cutting off angles. I wanted to strangle him. I wish they would just start making him do shots every 15 minutes.

That is what he gets paid for. He's a good commentator. Not as good as Vince Scully. Vince is a better story teller and has a good voice. Joe also has a good baseball voice but won't be regarded as the best like Vince.
