My husband belongs to a special 'executive fitness center' at the local YMCA. He is allowed two massages a week with his membership. The two masseuses are blind. Just an example of things a blind person can do.
Go to ASK.com and enter 'hobbies for the blind'. I found several sites to investigate. Not knowing if your uncle is recently blind or how old he is, it is hard to come up with ideas.
Most cities have a "Council for the blind". Perhaps they could help. Perhaps he could help them.
There are books on CD. If he is interested, he could write children's books, poetry, short stories...whatever.
The best thing would be to find something he could do that help others. This would take his focus off his own problem. Helping others is always a feel good activity. Check with about every charity group in your area.
Also check about a seeing eye dog. This could get him out of the house if only to take a walk, get the mail, maybe go to the store.
