The handle of the tap broke off yesterday and was replaced today, but now when I turn the tap there's not as much water pressure and the boiler does not kick in to supply the hot water (the cold tap is working fine as before). All other hot taps in my flat are still working and so is the boiler. Is there anything in the way a tap is screwed together/adjusted that would affect whether the boiler starts up to supply it with hot water?

Have you got a cut off valve in the hot water pipe. Was this turned off when the tap was changed? If so was the valve fully opened after fitting the tap? If your boiler is the new condensing type, then if the flow of water is reduced, the boiler will not fire.

The new tap may be a lower flow then the old one was and this would cause lower pressure and less water to flow. If this is a lower flow the demand for hot water would not be as high and the boiler will not come on as quickly. Another cause could be that when you changed the tape some debris may have gotten in the line and this will restrict the flow causing a lower pressure and less water to flow and less demand for hot water.

The water pressure should be 1.5 to 2.Try relighting the pilot light by switching it off at the mains and re starting it.Mine always plays up especially in winter.

Do you still get a steady supply of hot water or does it get cold after a bit?

You must wait for some time for the cold water in the pipe to come out.

call the plumber back and tell him that it not right. Low water flow will not trip the sensor that turns on the heater

The pilot may be out. Call your local Natural Gas Utility and see if they will send someone tocheck it.
