The estrogens stimulate the lining of the uterus to prepare for receiving a fertilized egg. As the estrogens increase and FSH output decreases, another hormone LH (luteinizing hormone) is secreted by the pituitary to complete the development and eject the egg from the ovary (ovulation).

Apparently there is such a thing as too much estrogen. If you do some research on the internet regarding hormonal imbalances between estrogen, progesterone and testosterone; there is quite a bit of info on how this can affect the body (female) with any number of side effects.
