Well, it may be a somewhat surprising take on your system, but I think the root of the problem is money. In order to run for power in the senate or congress you have to be a millionaire who is supported by even richer individuals and corporations. And who does the press work for? Why, the very same individuals and corporations! Cosy, isn't it?
What to do? In Britain there is a limit on what a local constituency party can spend on an election. I think for a member of parliament this is in the order of 25,000 US dollars. National parties are of course spending a lot more in general publicity but even with campaign budgets of 30-40 million dollars they are running into donation scandals. This is leading to calls for the state funding of political parties.
Of course, none of this could ever come to pass in the US because it would be like turkeys voting for Thanksgiving. However, I would also point out that the founding fathers never intended the Republic to be a democracy. It was always to be a republic run be the land-owning gentry. In other words, the rich. This is pretty much what you have in the US. I regret to say that to change the system will need the American public to ask some very radical questions of itself. Is that going to happen with your media?
Good luck.

I'm not too sure what you mean exactly, because UK is no better placed to preach on such matters than anyone else. Moral decline has always been a big issue, when in reality it's been going on for centuries - it's just that now with more investigative journalists on the prowl a lot more gets reported. As for us Brits teaching the Americans anything, personally I find it laughable. You have a republic, envy of the world, half copied by France and never enacted here in UK where we desperately need it. "You can never have too much democracy" Doctor Benjamin Franklin

Are all Americans obsessed with what other people get up to in the privacy of there own home ? instead of worrying about the sexual antics of your leaders you should be asking them why they continue to take notice of the gun lobby and let (almost)anyone go buy a gun and murder children. your dirty little secret has nothing to do with sexual practises, its your ignorance & aragonce. as for ethics & morals I doubt that theres a goverment in the world that could teach you guys anything. people are the same the world over.
when you talk of sexual deviation Im presuming someone has come out as gay & that offends you. for a 21st century country you guys have a lot to learn. maybe our goverment could teach you somthing afterall. im proud to be gay in a country that for the most part accepts me for the decient person I am. I can enter into a legal partnership with another guy if I wanted but I cant legaly buy a gun and slaughter the most innocent & peace loving people in my community.. wise up !!

your question is a bit muddled but i get it.
unfortunately all govs are dirty and corrupt some choose to sweep it under the carpet but in this country they don't report it cause they want to be moral they do it cause they can! and to embarrass the people involved but i do agree with u, if a member of government does something wrong then it should be reported because people and children are told to look up to them as role models.but it should be reported in a civilised manner

sexual orientation is a personal matter. now when you get into them having prostitutes and all that stuff..... that's more the people's fault. the only time most of the nation's citizen's does any form of research (or even voting) is during the presidential elections. we need to learn to do more research on our candidated about every little thing about them. AND VOTE!

I think the only difference between your leaders and our is - ours don't get caught as often, or it doesn't come to light until they are out of power and a mistress or lover reveals all in a book !.
