Ok it says
The first microbe had a measure of one hundred sixty-two ten-millionths meter. The second measure of the second microbe was four hundred twenty-three hundred millionths meter. By how much was the first microbe larger?
I dont know how to convert those words into numbers. Once I get those down I can do the problem. Plz help!

a ten-millionth of a meter = 10^(-7) meters
a hundred-millionth of a meter = 10^(-8) meters

Use these to express everything in meters:
first microbe's measure: 162 * 10^(-7) m
second microbe's measure: 423 * 10^(-8) m

Now rewrite one of these to make it easier to compare. For example,

423 * 10^(-8) =
423 * 10^(-1) * 10^1 * 10^(-8) =
(423 * 0.1) * 10^(1-8) =
42.3 * 10^(-7),

so now you can compare 162 * 10^(-7) against 42.3 * 10^(-7).

Write 162 over a line and 10 million (one followed by seven zeros) below the line. This is a fraction that, when you divide the top number by the bottom number it will give a decimal number(use a calculator to check).

Do the same for the other number: 423/100 000 000

Divide the first fraction by the second fraction and say that it is whatever times bigger or smaller.

1st--- 162*10^-7 meter=1620*10^-8
2nd--- 463*10^-8 meter
Difference between 1st & 2nd
=[1620-463]*10^-8=1157*10^-8
=one thousand one hundred fiftyseven-hundred millionth of a meter.

hi rica, at first, enable's be certain what the question is calling: "in case you divded 18 into 9 factors, how lots is 3 of those factors?" consequently, we would desire to first divide 18 into 9 factors. what's eighteen divided by potential of 9? it rather is 2. ok, so if we divide 18 into 9 factors, one among those factors is comparable to 2. however the question is requesting 3 of those factors, so we would desire to multiply our answer by potential of three. what's thrice 2? it rather is 6! 3/9 of 18 is 6. to think of approximately it extra mathematically, right this is the equation performing what we defined above: (3/9)*18 = (18/9)*3 = 2*3 = 6. comparable answer!

subtract the second number from teh first

first = 162-10millionths of a meter
minus
second= 42.3-10millionths of a meter(converted from 100millionths)

= 119.7 10millionths of a meter

162/10,000,000 and 423/100,000,000 . Solve with calculator if necessary to get .0000162 and .00000423 . Subtracting 2nd from 1st yields .00001197.
