Take the first 3 digits of your telephone # (not the area code) times it by 80 then add 1 then times by 250 then add the last 4 digits of your phone # then add the last 4 again then minus 250 and divide by 2. Your answer is your phone #. Does anyone know why this works??

Let your phone number be 10000x+y, where x is the first 3 digits and y is the last four. The 10000 is to shift the first 3 digits so that the 7-digit number can be represented in terms of the first 3 and the last 4.

Then what you're doing is computing

(250(80x+1)+2y-250)/2

which, if you simplify, gives you

(20000x+250+2y-250)/2
= (20000x+2y)/2
= 10000x+y.

Given the phone number abcdefg...
When you take the first three numbers (abc) and multiply by 80, add 1 and multiply that by 250, you are multiplying the number by 20,000 and adding 250. So we have, with a little multiplication and factoring) 2(abc0000) +250.
Now we add the last 4 digits, defg, twice, giving us 2(defg).
So we have 2(abc0000) +250 +2(defg)
Subtracting 250 leaves us with 2(abc0000) + 2(defg)
Now dividing by 2 gives us abc0000+defg which equals abcdefg, our original number. Good times! :-)
