I had my blood pressure taken today and it was 130/52. Should I be worried? Its never been low before and I'm not physically unwell. My resting heart rate is normally between 56 and 62.

There's a bit of a gap between the systolic (130) and the diastolic (52) which may be worth asking a question about. But I've lived with a diastolic of 50 for ages and regularly ask my GP about it - because you see on TV programmes people being rushed into the emergency room with a diastolic of 50 - and he says that as long as there are no other symptoms don't worry ... and everybody seems to agree with him. You might find yourself getting a little giddy when standing up suddenly, but unless you also find yourself abnormally tired or otherwise bothered I would save the question until your next check-up. Doctors worry far more about high blood pressure - strokes and all that - so I would set it aside for the moment.

The Net has some blood pressure advisory groups and you might want to google for one or two of them, but I don't think you should concern yourself. And don't allow it to rise when you read the posting from the prat who called you a moron ... if they're reading this, get a life.

You state that your B/P has never been low and it isn't low now. The first number, the systolic blood pressure is of more concern than the second number, the diastolic blood pressure. I'm don't know if the 56 - 62 is your usual pulse or apical pulse, but either way, it's fine.

Blood pressure readings are of more value and significance when viewed as part of an overall picture. How does this B/P reading fit in with previous ones? Have there been any big changes? Understand? Your present reading is not alarming but seeing this as an isolated value with nothing to compare it to limits me somewhat.

As long as you feel fine and as long as your diastolic stays above 50, you should be okay. Now, your health care provider may have a different opinion. Go with that one.

The person above me mentioned a "gap". (Thank you!) This is called pulse pressure and is the difference between the systolic and diastolic pressures. It's normally 30 - 50 mm/Hg and your is 78. It would be a good idea to run this past your doctor just to cover your bases. And to Sarah below me, having a too low B/P is as harmful as having one that is too high.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

Be noted that , to diagnose low blood pressure , you have to measure blood pressure for 3 consecutive days,

Once it is diagnosed as a low blood pressure, it is easy to be controlled.

Your blood pressure varies significantly during the day/night. Take it several times a day and see. 130/52 is not low

I also have slightly low blood pressure and heart rate. It is nothing to worry about, and can be attributed to being very active i.e. various sports.

Oh gosh, what boring answers....please tell me you didn't get to the end of that last one!

Have you been lurking round the doctors surgery again???????

I think your problem could be 'special' squash league deprivation, and too much time to worry about your health (not that I'd ever suggest you were a hypochondriac)....go and learn a new skill - I hear unicycling is very rewarding.
