Yes call the bmv. Congrats on the car. Are you restoring it or has it already been restored? Have fun with it.

PS In case you can't guess I want one too but my husband would rather have a 1959 chevy. Oh well some day.

I asked my husband about the vin on a 1938 car. He said there would not have been a vin on it. He said he thinks car makers started putting vin's on cars in 1944 or 1945. He says there would be a number on the original motor but it is not the vin per say. He says it would be some where on the block. They did not number the cars with a vin but they did number the motors. So take your bill of sale if you have one & the motor number if the original motor is still in it and go to the bmv and talk to them about it. They should still have a way to get you a title for it. It may take a bit longer but you should be able to get one.
Any way he would like to know what type of 1938 car it is. He may want a 1959 chevys but he does admire the older cars also.
Again congrats on the car and happy motoring

Just go to the dmv with as much info on the car that you have, vin, make, model, etc. They will get a title for you.
If it hasn't been registered in like 10 yrs. or reported stolen then it's yours. Possession is 9/10ths of the law.

Get the vin number off of it and get in touch with someone from the State, Motor Vehicle Agency.

Go to your local DMV they'll tell you. The best bet is probably "application for a title to an abandoned vehicle."
