A polish priest called Father Maximilian Kolbe. He helped Jews escape the Nazis during the second world war. He was held at Auschwitz concentration camp for this 'crime.'
One morning in 1941 the camp sirens announced the escape of a prisoner. For every man that escaped ten would be picked out to die the terrible fate of being starved to death in a specailly designed cell.
Slowly wordlessly the Natzi Gestapo counted out the ten to die... two.. three.... As the nineth man was chosen he uttered a pityful cry 'My wife and children. I shall never see them again.' His choking sobs perced the silence.
Father Kolbe stepped forward pointed at the condemed man and asked in German if he could take his place. 'who are you?' the officer asked. 'A catholic preist' He replied.
The officer allowed the men to swap places.
The 10 men were thrown naked onto the concrete floor of a cell. They were starved to death, buried alive in a specially constructed cell.
The guards were used to hearing screams, groans and curses coming from the cell. Now they heard prayers and hymns. He helped the men die with dignity. The cell became a church. When the poor wreches begged for water or bread they were kicked or shot.
Father Kolbe never once complained or asked for water. He was the only prisoner not to lose consciousness. The gaurds could not look into his eyes. They dispached the last four prisoners with a lethal injection. Father Kolbe held out his arm calmly praying all the time.
This man is a saint. He is my hero!

And then a hero comes along With the strength to carry on And you cast your fears aside And you know you can survive So when you feel like hope is gone Look inside you and be strong And you'll finally see the truth That a hero lies in you

My dad is my hero. He is such a strong person. My dad came from a five child family, and his family never had alot of money - but they got by with what they had. His oldest (and only older sibling) died when he was really young, he had an illegitimate daughter that he had to give up... only to have her find him later in life - and taking her to meet his other children. He had to leave college for financial and personal reasons. He has been stuck in a job that he doesn't always like - something that he always knew would happen... he had to let go of his dreams in order to support his family. But, no matter what has happened in my dads life he always takes time to smile, and to laugh - and to be a kid. He was never ashamed to have his daughters put makeup on him and do his hair and then have him go to the store like that... just because one of us needed an ice cream. One of my favorite memories of him is when he finally got to Disney World... he was 40 years old... but his eyes lit up and he was five again, getting to do what he always wanted to do... but never could. Last fall my dad went back to college, and was on the Dean's List every semester... he keeps trying, and living, and laughing, and no matter what, I love him... because he is my dad - and I will always be Daddy's Little Girl, even when I am old and grey and he is already gone.

My husband who took me by the hand and showed me what true love really means. He also nursed me back to health and was there for me through thick and thin. My 'HERO' just an ordinary guy with no pretentiousness whatsoever.

The guy, who wrote "I Lucifer". The book is about why the angel turned bad. All the temptation of embracing interesting, provocative thoughts and escaping the boredom of really "nice" people...
Yep, I can identify with that!
