Legend? No, amazingly enough he was real. And maybe because it was swamped by his all-round musical talent, he remains under-rated as a guitarist. I often listen to his albums and get jerked awake by the guitar solos. Favorites? What was the one with Beefheart? Willie the Pimp/Hot Rats?

I only have three things that Frank Zappa was on. One was an episode of the Monkees where he plays Mike Nesmith and Mike Nesmith plays Frank, The Monkees Movie, Head, Frank tells Davy the song he just sang is pretty "white", and that the kids are depending on him to show the way. And finally, I have John and Yoko's Sometime in New York album that comes with Live Jam featring the Plastic Ono Mothers, a supergroup of John's band and Frank's band.

Favorite album has to go back to the original Freak Out! though there are a lot of others include Just Another Band from LA, Overnight Sensation. Favorite song: Joe's Garage I also like: Eddie are you Kidding? and just about everything else. Only saw him once New Year's eve 1974 Long Beach Arena. Definitely a legend.Too many great lyrics to pick just one.

How about:
Well I'm about to get sick
From watchin' my TV
Been checkin' out the news
Till my eyeballs fail to see
I mean to say that every day
Is just another rotten mess
(Sure 'nuff!)
And when it's gonna change, my friend
Is anybody's guess (Well!) (Woa!)
So I'm
Watchin' and I'm a--waitin'
I'm hopin' for the best
Even think I'll go to prayin'
Every time I hear 'em sayin'
There's no way to delay
That trouble comin' every day
There's no way to delay
That trouble comin' every day

The guy above is me is spot on.

Put aside everything else, and he is notable purely as a guitarist. There is loads of good stuff to explore on albums like the 'Shut Up 'N Play Yer Guitar' series, many live boots, and various collections of outtakes from solos. This is quite aside from his abilities as a composer, arranger and lyricist!

Only one other thing I'd like to say - far from the 'gonzo' stereotype, he was actually one of the sanest human beings on Earth. Try to track down his Dick Cavett interview and many others, it's good reading.

Cheers!

Joes garage I, II and III

Never saw him in concert, but I do have a tape of Dweezil, Steve Vai, Dale Bozio and others doing a birthday concert in his honor. (he wasn't there, of course.)

Actually, I have a couple favorite songs/lyrics:
1) Catholic girls - just hilarious
2)
Information is not knowledge.
Knowledge is not wisdom.
Wisdom is not truth.
Truth is not beauty.
Beauty is not love.
Love is not music.
Music is THE BEST

R.I.P. Frank!

Legend: Definatly
Album: "Best Band you never Heard in Your Life" (live in Europe - the band didn't stay together long enought to make it to the states)
Song: "Dumb All Over" and "Uncle Remus"
Never saw a concert, unfortunatly.
Lyric: "You are what you is, and that's all it 'tis - You is what you am, a cow don't make ham!"

Joes Garage... without a doubt.

He was such a master at freeform jazz... I don't think the world appreciated how talented he was musically.

He was the original shock jock!

I miss him!

Too bad Dweezil is on tour, playing his dads music... what a croc. What a sellout... I will NOT be going to that show.

Watch out where the huskies go and do't you eat that yellow snow. So he beat him in the head with a lead filled snow shoe.
