The old saying is very true...."Life is what you make of it"
You have to understand that all the ups and downs of living is a process that we all go through....we all have different circumstances that place us at different times and different situations....its unique to "us"!! Ive seen 2 brothers die...1 youngest & 1 oldest, my Dad die at age 15, my own life almost taken away 2 times in car accidents.....Im thankful and happy to be ALIVE in everyway possible! Every sunshine and every breeze of fresh air I remember the glory of taking it all in....life is very short....have fun and enjoy every little moment that you have ....it all matters!!!

It seems to me and I am sure others will agree this question is asked a lot on yahoo answers.
Like you said life can be full of disappointments, but life alone is not one big disappointment.
You get to be "You" once.
Thats it; there is no other chance to live again in this world and remember doing so.
Life is what it is, although it may seem like crap sometimes, after those crappy times comes Good times.
That's what there is to look forward to, the good times.
I am sure you had good times in your life that you can remember, nevertheless there will be more to come.
You are here to make a difference, maybe not in the enitre world, but if you put your mind to it anything is possible.
Your are the smartest most efficenient life form on the planet, every human is above all creatures.
We are here to create, we are here for the universe.
To explore worlds unseen.
Although it may be a long time before we can fully explore the universe that is one reason why we are here.
To grow in knowledge, and to spread that knowledge through out the universe.
You may not be the one to do so, we all have to take small steps.
You can't just make to the top, humanity will take each step at a time.
Even in every individuals life there are steps to take to get to the top.
Its fine to sit in the middle, others will rise.

Another reason we are all here is to have children.
This is are soul reason for existence.
Every one will die one day.
Some will leave behindhind memories, but those memories will be forgotten in five hundered years.
Some will leave behind a house, but that house will fall to the ground in 100 years.
What we all leave behind that is most importent is children.
Children are the source of life.
No children= No humanity.
So even though you will die one day.
Your generations to come will still have a part of them in you.

Remember all you have to do to live, is breathe and wait for the sunrise, because the sun will bring a new day as long as you breathe.
Best wishes....

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

It's only because you're focusing on the miseries and disappointments that they exist mainly to you. Life IS awareness. If you focus your awareness on what you want, instead of what you don't want, you'll find your experience turning to heaven, rather than hell. It all matters on what you focus on. This is why positive thinking is dire to a good life.

Because when the end of the day comes and you fall asleep, the man upstairs wakes you up the next day showing your presence is important and that he obviously needs you alive on earth.
