unfortunately we live in lopsided world.......I guess it's kind of like the scarlet letter being put on the woman only and not the man......it seems as though children are easier to point the finger at instead of the adults....go figure.

it was during the middle ages that to have a earthly father meant that the male child had an inhertiance it meant that he could go into the community and say that he was the son of such and such man(in theory this meant that he would receive the respect of his local elders and be received into the community) for one person to call another person a bastard was to say that the father in question did not have the respect of others in his community and to verbally imply that the mother in question was a woman of ill repute and that the man in question who was being called a bastard was not received by his community

Brilliant question...you're right. The woman who carelessly procreated with a jerk should be the one who gets the bad name.
I'm so sick of hearing women complain about "the jerk who left." If you'd have higher standards for getting to know someone before effing them, you might not experience such abandonment.
